Music Video Awards 2022
I was working to create live event visuals for the UK Music Video Awards (UKMVA) in 2022. What you can see above is a 1.5 min montage that I created working alongside the UKMVA editorial director David Knight. The montage highlighted the most prominent music videos from the 2022 music video awards submissions.
The Music Video Awards is an organisation that celebrates the best work in music videos and music visuals in the past 12 months. There were more than two hundred music video submissions in 2022 in more than 40 categories. Some of the categories included best pop video, best dance video, best editing in a video, best director, video of the year and more.
The unique challenge with this project was to cut down all music video submissions into their categories. Each category includes five to six songs from different artists and has to be presented at the event on the main screen for no more than a minute. Which means that every song was cut to 10 seconds and pieced together in a category montage of around 1 minute. Some of these category submission montages you can watch below. These were the final live even visuals that were screened at the event introducing every category.
Techniques I used in these films:
- For the best person category (best agent, best producer etc), split screens were made using nesting in premiere pro, then these nests were animated to make a smooth transitions between different submissions
- Every song in every category was cut to beat in order to make the transitions between different music tracks seamless
- The project took around 3 weeks to deliver all final assets and there were over 100 assets (including clips announcing the winner of each category)
Have a look at some of the categories cutdowns below!
